Air Waybill (AWB): The document made out by or on behalf of the shipper which, when used, evidences the contract between the shipper and carrier(s) for carriage of goods over routes of the carrier(s).

Agent: A person or organization authorized to act for or on behalf of another person or organization.

Booking: Advance arrangement for space or weight on flight.

Cargo: Also referred to as "goods", means any property carried or to be carried on an aircraft, other than mail or other property carried under terms of an international postal convention, baggage or property of the carrier; provided that baggage moving under an air waybill or a shipment record is cargo.

Cargo Manifest: A document which has details of all air waybill numbers loaded on a flight.

Carriage: Also referred to as "transportation", means carriage of cargo by air.

Carrier: The air carrier issuing the Air Waybill and all other air carriers that carry or undertake to carry the cargo under the Air Waybill or to perform any other services related to such air carriage.

Certificate Of Origin: A document which establishes the country of origin of specified goods.

Commercial Invoice: Document describing the commercial value of goods being shipped.

Commodity: Description of goods.

Conditions Of Carriage: The terms and conditions established by a carrier in respect to its carriage.

Conditions Of Contract: The terms and conditions shown on the air waybill.

Consignee: The person whose name appears on the air waybill as the party to whom the goods are to be delivered by the carrier.

Consignment: Refer “Shipment".

Consignor: Refer "Shipper".

Customs: Government Service which is responsible for the administration of customs law and the collection of taxes and duties.

Customers Broker: An agent designated to do customs clearance on behalf of the consignee.

Customs Clearance: The custom formalities that need to be completed at Origin, Destination or while in Transit

Customs Clearance Agent: A customs broker designated to perform customs clearance services for the consignee.

Dangerous Goods (DG): Articles or substances which are capable of posing a significant risk to health, safety, property or the environment when transported by air.

Destination: The final stopping place according to the contract of carriage.

Flight Number: The designation of a flight.

Forwarder (FWDR): An agent or a company appointed by the shipper to perform services for export of goods.

General Sales Agent (GSA): An agent authorized to handle an airline's export sales/services.
Goods: Refer "Cargo".

Gross Weight: The weight of a shipment including the weight of packing material.

House Air Waybill (HAWB): The document issued by a consolidator which covers details of each individual shipments of a consolidation. This is issued for instructions to the break bulk agent.

IATA Cargo Agent: An agent approved by IATA and registered in the IATA cargo agency list. This agent can receive shipments, execute Air Waybill and collect charges on authorization of an IATA carrier.

IATA carrier: A carrier that is a member of the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

In-Bond Transportation: Transporting a transit cargo shipment in bond without clearing customs till the destination

Interline Carriage: The carriage over the routes of two or more air carriers.

Interline Carrier: The carrier with whom another carrier has an interline agreement.

Letter Of Credit (L/C): A letter issued by a bank on behalf of a buyer and addressed to the seller authorizing him or her to draw drafts for a stipulated amount, under specified terms and to provide eventual payment for drafts within a given time.

Master Air Waybill (MAWB): Means an Air Waybill covering a consolidated shipment and showing the consolidator as shipper.

Net Weight: The actual weight of the goods, excluding all packing.

Notification of Arrival: A notice sent to the consignee notifying them of a shipment's arrival.

Origin: Starting point of a shipment.

Rate: Amount charged by the carrier (s) for carriage of a unit of goods.

Rerouting: The route to be followed as altered from that originally specified on the Air Waybill.

Reservation: Refer "Booking"

Road Feeder Service (RFS): Surface transportation arranged by a carrier to/from his gateway stations to another city or airport.

Routing: The route to be followed as originally specified in the Air Waybill.

Shipment: One or more pieces of goods accepted by the carrier from one shipper at one time and at one address, receipted for in one lot and moving on one Air Waybill or shipment record to one consignee at one destination address.

Shipper's Letter Of Instruction (SLI): The document containing instructions by the shipper or shipper's agent for preparing documents and forwarding.

Special Instructions: Directions for handling a shipment and/or delivery directions for a shipment.

Tariff: The published rates, charges and related rules.

Through Cargo: Cargo staying on board at en-route stopping place for ongoing carriage on the same flight.

Transfer: Movement of cargo from one carrier to another against transfer manifest.

Transfer Cargo: Cargo arriving at a point by one carrier and continuing its further journey by another carrier.

Transferring Carrier: The participating carrier transferring the shipment to another carrier at a transit point.

Transshipment: The unloading of cargo from one flight and loading onto another for onward carriage.

Transit: An enroute stopping place where cargo remains on board the aircraft.

Unit Load Device (ULD): A container or pallet in which a consignment/s can be transported.

ULD Control Receipt (UCR): A document to record the loan / borrow ULD transactions between airlines.
